In-Home Foster
A foster home is much more than just a place to live; it's a sanctuary where dogs find the opportunity to heal, both physically and emotionally, before taking the step towards their permanent adoption. The work of foster homes becomes a fundamental link in this chain of transformation, as they represent the place where dogs rediscover the joy of living, leaving their suffering behind.

The solidarity of foster families is the foundation upon which our ability to continue rescuing these loyal companions rests. At Puerto Viejo Dogs, we cover veterinary and food costs, but it is your emotions that you contribute: a heart full of compassion, boundless patience, empathy that understands trauma, and an unwavering desire to guide these newcomers on their journey to rediscovering happiness.​ Our little ones arrive with visible and invisible wounds, carrying the weight of fear and fragility with every step. They have known the dark side of humanity, but their foster families become the light that transforms their dull gazes into glimmers of renewed trust. Every gesture of affection, every shared space, every word of encouragement, are drops of love that fill their wounded hearts.

Dog Walker
Spend a morning, or afternoon, walking 1 or 2 of our dogs at the beach or on the jungle path in town. Two hour time commitment.
Sniff Spot Supervisor
Chaperone 2 to 5 of our dogs at Sniff Spot, a local dog park. Throw a ball, give them treats, enjoy the park. Two hour time commitment.
Ride Coordinator
Help with rides to and from vet appointments for our foster dogs. Must have your own transportation. Timing depends on appointment.
